Kitten Cottage Cat Boarding Tips

Cats react much differently in a strange environment than other pets. Cats are instinctively solitary.
Feline don’t run in packs so when confronted with strange surroundings, their normal response is to withdraw physically and mentally into a protected, solitary state. For this reason cats enjoy the "protected" feeling they get from being in the hole prepared by us in every room at our cottage. While it is true that most of other pets want to run around and get acquainted, our feline friend will likely want to sit in the corner of his room and stare until they feels comfortable in the new environment. Human contact does not normally accelerate their acclimatization unless with a superb socialize cat. It has to take place at the cat's own speed.
Many cat owners oppose being inside because "kitty loves to run around."
Perhaps they do that at home, but while they are in an unfamiliar surroundings, their room gives them a feeling of safety. "But what about exercise?" Here again, cats are different than other pets. Ie: Dogs need space to exercise, whereas cats exercise isometrically. This means that if a cat has enough room to stretch, they can exercise every muscle in their body. When your cat is in strange surroundings, around strange cats, he will undoubtedly prefer "safety" to "space.
However, for cats that are sociable and prefer to have other cats as companion and to play with, we do allowed them to mingle under supervision from our certified staffs.
Stress is a Factor.
Any pet in strange surroundings suffers from stress. This means that their normal immune process is affected as well as eating and digestive habits. Our, certified personnel are trained in feline care and will do everything possible to minimize the effects of stress on your cat. You can minimize the effects of stress by trying to make the boarding as pleasant as possible for your cat. Remember that the more often your cat being boarded, the more adjusted they will be to our cattery environment, and the easier the boarding process becomes for them. Therefore, several short periods of boarding prior to a lengthy vacation will do more to help your cat adjust than anything else.
Welcoming Kitty Home.
After you pick kitty up from our cottage, be sure to keep them locked in at home for a few days before allowing them to roam outside. Just as they had to adjust to our cottage, they will have to adjust to being home again. Allow them to find that "at home" feeling again before letting them out of the house.
